The Government is holding discussions with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to obtain a loan of US$ 50 million to uplift the small and medium industries (SMI) in the country. A special team from ADB Headquarters in Manila is currently on a fact-finding mission in this regard, mapping out the type of technical assistance needed for the programme. Meanwhile, the ADB which has shown an interest in assisting the Government in its poverty alleviation programme, will be conducting a workshop on this subject, based on the Government's framework for poverty alleviation. Representatives from the ADB and other donor agencies, as well as from the Government, the private sector and non-governmental organisations, are expected to participate and share their views at this seminar.
