The final rally of the five day protest march of the United National Party concluded yesterday in Colombo. The march was held to protest the rising cost of living and demanding a restoration of democracy. The walk began from Kandy on Independence Day. The UNP stated that the second stage of the walk would be commencing from Colombo to Kataragama shortly. Kataragama is a southern town, home to a popular shrine revered by both Buddhists and Hindus. The party has planned to carry its message to the people on the rising cost of living and the need to set up the four independent commissions early. The Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe addressing a gathering yesterday urged the government to reduce the price of essential commodities to bring relief to the people.
