STF attacks clear many LTTE strongholds in East, making heavy setbacks for Tigers

Police Special Task Force have been able to clear many strongholds with a hundred percent success.  The Director, Police Special Task Force Operations [Ampara - Batticaloa], Sarath Silva told a group of Colombo based journalists, "STF defensive operations have become the most serious challenge facing the LTTE in the east today, not only militarily but also in terms of public relations."

The Director further stated police commandos were essentially living with the people and looking into their needs while keeping the enemy at the bay with the army. The police paramilitary unit are actively engaged in social service activities in the villages consists of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim.  Due to the above factor many LTTE cadres have left areas eve without a single firing from the army. 

LTTE encountered another blow when the STF officer-in-charge, Thirukkovil discovered a mobile phone stored with many vital LTTE contact numbers in Colombo.  The phone was earlier used by Thirukkovil LTTE leader, Stanley. 

The necessity of launching development projects to employ youth was highlighted by the Director, Sarath Silva.  He said that they will guarantee full security for foreign and local investors who are will to support such programmes as developing all the cleared areas is one of the most urgent needs of the hour.
