Susanthika first in IAAF Grand Prix in Dortmund
[13 Feb 2001]

Sri Lankan Sprint Queen, Susanthika Jayasinghe who won a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics 2000 came first in the women's 60m dash at the IAAF Grand Prix meeting in Dortmund.

This was her first victory at the IAAF Grand Prix series after finishing second in the previous Sunday's indoor meeting at Stuttgart. It was her third successive appearance at the IAAF Grand Prix series.

Susanthika beat the winner of the Stuttgart Grand Prix, Ukranian Angela Kravchenko, clocking 7.21 seconds.

However, both players failed to better the timings they had achieved in Stuttgrat.

Jayasinghe, in a telephone conversation from Dortmund expressed confidence in improving her timings during her 2001 IAAF Grand Prix seasons. She said that the extremely cold climate there had affected her as well as the other athletes.

She was due to arrive in Belgium last night to prepare for the third meet of her 2001 Grand Prix season.
