1000 Palaly families to be relocated

Plans are underway to relocate more than one thousand families evicted from the Palaly high security zone in areas that have been cleared of landmines, an official said.

The displaced persons would be relocated in areas that had been deminded.

The rehabilitation would be done according to the United Nations guidelines.

At present people evicted from the Palaly high security zones in 1983 are living in refugee camps. Security sources said that LTTE sympathisers are instigating these families to stage protests demanding that they be sent back to their original villages around the Palaly defence complex.
