Sinhala political party launches a massive signature campaign urging Britain to ban LTTE
[14 Feb 2001]

With the LTTE having launched a signature campaign using students in the Jaffna and Eastern universities to collect one hundred thousand signatures urging the British government not to proscribe the LTTE in Britain, the Sihala Urumaya Party (Sinhala Heritage) also started its one million signature campaign last Saturday to urge the British government to ban the LTTE.

According to Mr. Champika Ranawaka, the party's national organizer, the petition would be handed over to the British High Commissioner on or before Saturday.

"Everyone including the British government knows that the LTTE is amply qualified to fall into the category of organizations that should be proscribed in Britain."

However, he vowed that the party would take legal action against the British government if it failed to proscribe the LTTE.

In order to ward off the ban the LTTE has started to pressurize the Tamil people living in England, Sri Lanka and all over the world, forcing them to take part in accelerating the lobbying.
