Intelligence sources reported that a plot to assassinate the deputy minister of rehabilitation in the north by the LTTE was revealed by a hardcore LTTE cadre called "Kutti" recently. This was revealed in a confession made by him after his arrest in Vavuniya by the security forces a week ago. He had been assigned by the LTTE leader "Pottu Amman" to execute deputy minister Premaratne Sumathipala. The LTTE is reported to have given a sophisticated telecommunication kit as payment for the contract. The LTTE suspect also revealed details of the training he received in Vavuniya, on how to conduct the assassination. The security forces arrested the terrorist on information received from intelligence sources.
