Weerasingham Jeyanthi, an LTTE woman suicide bomber swallowed a cyanide capsule on being arrested last Saturday at Vavuniya. Although she was given immediate medical treatment, she died shortly afterwards. A suicide jacket, two hand grenades, two cyanide capsules and two 9-volts batteries were recovered from her possession. It is believed that she had been commissioned to undertake a suicide bombing mission. Sri Lanka's northern rebel group, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have employed suicide bombers to assassinate VIP's under the guise of fighting for the rights of the minority Tamil community. They have been internationally condemned for using children in war.
