Sihala Urumaya call on the govt to break-off diplomatic ties with UK if LTTE is not banned

The Sihala Urumaya said yesterday that they would call on the Sri Lankan Government to break-off diplomatic ties with UK, if the British government fail to ban the LTTE.

A special symbolic presentation of one million signatures to the British High Commission regarding the public petition urging UK to ban the LTTE was held yesterday.

The public petition included signatures of Buddhist monks, catholic priests, officers of three armed forces, artists, academics, professionals and several parliamentarians from the main two parties.

The National Orgianser of the party Champika Ranawaka said at a press conference after the ceremony that Britain had failed to reveal the proscribed terrorist groups under the new anti terrorist act, which came into effect yesterday.

He further said that there were enough and more reasons for Britain to ban such a terrorist group, which has already been banned in other countries like the USA and India.

He questioned Britain's reactions if Sri Lanka started to support the IRA.

He was critical about UNP's present stance on the issue and accused the opposition for not urging Britain to ban the Tigers at this present crucial moment.
