The Inter Religious Alliance for National Unity [IRAFNU] wants LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran to assure the people of the South that he has no desire for a separate state. The Alliance believes that such an approach is the only way to reach an understanding with the Sinhala people. Alliance representatives said yesterday, that on their tour to Madhu Church on Sunday, the LTTE leaders had conveyed that they were ready to lay down arms, and that it wants no separate state, provided the way is paved for Tamils to live in dignity and freedom in any part of Sri Lanka. While addressing the media at the Social and Economic Development Centre [SEDEC] the IRAFNU Chairman said that the LTTE had assured their delegation that what it meant by Eelam was not a separate state but the whole of Sri Lanka which comprised a Sinhala Eelam and a Tamil Eelam. IRAFNU have announced this latest message to the Sri Lankan Government to act positively towards the LTTE declared cease-fire, which is due to end on 28th February. The Defence Ministry and the Sri Lanka Army provided the necessary facilities for the delegation to visit Madhu. The delegation was convinced that the LTTE was genuine in their commitment for peace at this moment.
