Minister Mangala Samaraweera pledges to rebuild Colombo

Minister of Urban Development, Mangala Samaraweera pledged to make Colombo a ‘World Class City’ that would be able to compete with other modern cities of the world.

Opening the Annual Sessions of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and the Architect 2001 Exhibition at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) yesterday, the Minister re-traced the history of the great city of Anuradhapura, which was one of the “famous cities in the ancient world.”

The Minister said that according to the master plan on urban development, sustainable townships would be constructed with adequate recreational facilities.

British Architect Sir Jeremy Dixon delivered the Keynote Address at the Annual Sessions of the SLIA, which was attended by a number of foreign delegates.
