President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga commenced a two-day official visit to India yesterday during which she is expected to hold talks with Indian Premier Atal Behari Vajpayee on the delayed SAARC summit and several other issues of mutual concern. She will also meet her Indian counterpart K. R. Narayan and several other political leaders.

President Kumaratunga who holds the SAARC chairmanship would try to persuade India to agree to an early date for SAARC's 11th summit. The SAARC summit was last held in 1998 in Colombo.

Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and other senior officials accompanied the Sri Lankan President.
