Indo–Lanka leaders begin bilateral talks

Commencing President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge her two-day visit to India, met the Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpyee in New Delhi.  

The two leaders discussed the matters relating to SAARC region and matters affecting Sri Lanka and India.  The talks were held in an affable atmosphere.  After the talks with the Prime Minister, the President attended a luncheon at the Indian Prime Minister’s residence.  

When the President of Sri Lanka arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, on Thursday, she was received by Minister for Social Justice Menaka Gandhi.  Indian and Sri Lankan national flags flanked the escorted route of motorcade. 

The Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge met the Indian President K R Narayan at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi last evening and attended a state banquet hosted by the Indian President in her honour. During the President’s tour, she is expected to hold talks with the Indian External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, other Indian state leaders, and representatives of Indian and International media.
