The European Union “reiterates firm condemnation of the terrorist acts and violations of human rights and international humanitarian law perpetrated by the LTTE,” European Parliament’s Vice Chairman Gerard Collins said on Saturday. The European Union has welcomed the high level Inter-ministerial Standing Committee on human rights drawing the government’s attention to the urgent need to provide the Human Rights Commission with requisite resources for it to perform its duty. The Union expresses the hope that Velupillai Prabhakaran will keep to his last declaration in which he stated that the LTTE were prepared to enter into peace negotiations with the Government.Collins noted that during such talks the intentions of the participants would be seriously tested.
