Thousands of Tamil youth including children and adults are reported to be undergoing a harsh and severe training in the LTTE camps in Thoppigala and Kanchikuddiaru in the east. Civilians coming from LTTE areas have given these details to the military stating that the LTTE have forcibly taken away their children to be trained for major attacks in the future. A senior military official said that the LTTE was secretly training their cadres in camps in Thoppigala and Kanchikuddiaru jungles. "Most of them are being trained forcibly. Many of them are reported to be children," he said. The children attending private tuition classes in the north and east now have to obtain a card signed by the LTTE leader of the area stating that they have undergone a military training. This was also confirmed by LTTE cadres who surrendered themselves to the Special Task Forces recently. According to them, a lot of Tamil youth are given harsh and inhuman training. They had escaped from the LTTE and confessed that more young cadres in the East have started to abandon the terrorist organization and are fleeing to the jungles. The unexpected announcement of a truce in December was 'too good to be true', especially coming from the LTTE when they had been insisting on 'unconditional' talks from the beginning. It was always the LTTE who had had no regard for a 'ceasefire' and the first to break the truce, during all the attempts made by the Sri Lankan Governments to resume peace talks. President Kumaratunga, during her Indian tour said that the Sri Lanka government was offering something more than a ceasefire.
