Around 200 demonstrators marched from Galle Face, a popular promenade in the city, and handed over a petition to the British High Commission urging UK to proscribe the LTTE. The issue of banning the LTTE in the UK has been the subject of intense lobbying by both sides. The government too has warned that failure to ban the LTTE would be an unfriendly act that would impose a considerable strain on relations with Britain. The LTTE's extension of its unilateral cease-fire is believed to be the cause of the delay in releasing the list of organizations banned by the British Government. However, the Sri Lankan Government maintains that there would be no disruption to the peace process. Over the weekend, President Kumaratunga told CNN in New Delhi that talks between the government and the LTTE would begin in two months.
