Estate workers continue to fight for the monthly allowance

The agitation campaign organised by the Ceylon Worker’s Congress (CWC), the main political party representing the plantation workers in the country was attended over 10,000.

This campaign was to demand a monthly allowance of Rs. 400 (US$ 4) to estate workers.

Participating the agitation Vocational Training Deputy Minister and the president of Lanka Plantation Workers’ Union Chandrasiri Gajadeera said the Rs. 400 demand was highly reasonable and the statement of the estate companies that this could not be done could not be accepted.

Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu and Christian clergy also joined the campaign.
