The engineering unit of the SLAF has widened its horizons by rebuilding Bell helicopters.


Sri Lanka Air Force celebrates golden jubilee year with fifty aircraft

Today the Sri Lanka Air Force possesses around 50 aircraft, including Kfir jets MIG-27s, MI-35 helicopters and Hercules C130 transport planes.

During the past one-year the SLAF has significantly strengthened its air power by purchasing around 50 sophisticated aircraft. The Sri Lanka Air Force will acquire more modern equipment and aircraft this year.

The Sri Lanka Air Force is the youngest of Sri Lanka’s three armed services.

The engineering unit of the SLAF has widened its horizons by rebuilding Bell helicopters.

“This is a giant step towards eventually making our own helicopters,” Air Force Commander Jayalath Weerakkody said.

Last week Air Force fighter jets blasted a key LTTE base North of Elephant Pass, destroying all its buildings and causing heavy damage.
