No punishment for army deserters during extended amnesty
[07 Mar 2001]

The general amnesty period for Army deserters to report back for duty, has been extended to March 14.

All rankers will be allowed to resume duties holding the same rank they held at the time of desertion without being subject to any punishment.

However, an islandwide plan has been activated to arrest those who fail to report back during this General Amnesty.

Steps will be taken to discharge all deserters over 35 years of age who have left the army due to serious personal problems.
