Root cause must be treated to eliminate the ethnic problem

A District Progress Review meeting on education was held at the D S Senanayake Vidyalaya, Ampara the meeting was chaired by the Minister of Development, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the East and Rural Housing Development Mrs. Fariel Ashraff.

Announcing the meeting Minister Fariel Ashraff said, “Lack of understanding between Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities is the root cause for the ethnic crisis in our country.  This misunderstanding can be rectified promptly, by installing the virtues of the Sinhala and Tamil languages among the school children of North and East from their childhood helping to create understanding among them.  This also would help to solve the ethnic crisis in the North and East.”

This meeting was the 20th meeting of series of meetings held on district level education development activities. Minister Fariel Ashraff called upon the nation by inviting the Ministers, the government and opposition members of the parliament to the meeting as they play a bigger role in the development activities parallel with the present government. She further stressed the necessity of expanding co-operation not only in education but also in other spheres of government’s activities.
