LTTE suicide kits in Dehiwala house
[13 Mar 2001]

Police yesterday traced a house at Waidya Road, Dehiwala, believed to have been used by LTTE suicide bombers to prepare for the assassinations of Member of Parliament Neelan Thiruchelvam and Industrial Development Minister C V Gooneratne last year.

“The suicide bomber who blew himself up near the Vihara Mahadevi Park had also been hiding in this house at Dehiwala,” Deputy Inspector General of Police [Greater Colombo] Jayantha Wickramaratne said.

The law enforcement officers found suicide kits, explosives, detonators and bombs in a special compartment of a cabinet.  These items are suspected to have been brought to Colombo for terrorist operations and suicide attacks on VIP’s.

Four-suspected LTTE suicide cadres were taken into custody, along with the explosives.  Dehiwala Police are conducting further investigations. Police said they expect to arrest several other LTTE suspects in this connection.
