[13 Mar 2001]

Negotiations between the Ceylon Worker’s Congress (CWC) and the Employers Federation of Ceylon will resume this morning with a view to settling the dispute over the demand for a Rs. 400 monthly allowance for plantation workers, a Ministry source reported.

An additional monthly allowance of Rs. 400 was granted to all private sector employees nearly an year ago, at the request of the Government.

Meanwhile, the CWC Leader, Minister Arumugam Thondaman met with all plantation trade unions last night to decide on their next course of action. According to CWC sources, representatives of the Tamil Political Parties, EPDP, TULF, PLOTE, and EPRLF also attended the meeting.
