Sri Lanka’s Buddhist clergy to learn Tamil

The Buddhist Clergy in Sri Lanka are to be taught Tamil. Teachers have been recruited to teach Tamil in all Privenas (Educational Institutions for the Clergy), in the country, as a feature of the National Peace Programme, Minister of Ethnic Affairs and National Integration Athauda Seneviratne said.

Although Tamil and Sinhala are national languages in Sri Lanka, teaching of these languages is not satisfactory, the Minister added.

The Ministry of Ethnic Affairs and National Integration is implementing the National Peace Programme with the aim of promoting communal harmony in the country.
