Budget passed in Parliament

The second reading of the maiden budget of the Peoples’ Alliance Government’s second term was passed in Parliament yesterday.

The vote was 115-106 for the Government in the 225-member house (with two absentees and one abstention). Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar who is accompanying the President on her current official overseas visit was absent. The other absentee was TULF member V. Anandasangari.

The Sihala Urumaya member abstained from voting.

The UNP, JVP, TULF, TELO and ACTC voted against the second reading.
