President Chandrika Bandaranaike yesterday held extensive talks with Dutch leaders on a wide range of issues including the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka. The visiting Sri Lankan President was warmly received by Her Majesty the Queen and H.R.H. Prince Claus of the Netherlands. President Kumaratunga's visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The main focus of the Presidents talks with Queen Beatrix, Prime Minister W.Kok and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs was on the peace effort and on economic and trade links between the two countries. The leaders of the two countries have also discussed the Netherlands' assistance for education, water management and coastal management in Sri Lanka. They also reviewed 50 years of diplomatic relations and the 400th anniversary of the Dutch landing in Sri Lanka, due to be commemorated in 2002.
