Canada’s High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Ruth Archibald was in Jaffna over the weekend to open a Gender Resource Centre at the Uduvil Girls College. The High Commissioner said “the centre is located at the appropriate place and has come up at the appropriate time” she also said “This centre would play a leading role in the pursuit of equality between men and women in society”. The Shakthi Gender Equity Project of the Canadian International Development Agency funded the centre. Canada has over the years played a key role in Women's Movements in Sri Lanka.
