Sir Arthur C. Clarke to present Oscar nominations
[22 Mar 2001]

Sir Arthur C. Clarke will be one of the presenters at the 73rd Academy Awards (Oscar) ceremony in Los Angeles on March 25.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States has invited the famous space visionary and author to present the nominations and the winner in the category of best screenplay.

However, his presentation, which was filmed earlier this month in Colombo will be on video as he is unable attend the ceremony due to Post Polio Syndrome.

“I quite enjoyed recording my presentation,” says Sir Arthur. “But even I don’t know who the winner will be. I had to record five video clips presenting each nominee as the winner. I hope they’ll play the right one that night.”

“Chocolate”, “Crouching Tiger”, “Hidden Dragon”, “O Brother Where Art Thou”, Traffic and Wonder Boys share this year’s Academy nominations for best sreenplay.

Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick shared an Oscar nomination in 1969 for the best screenplay in their outstanding creation “2001: A Space Odyssey”.

Clarke who pioneered the concept of satellite communications in 1945, is a permanent resident of Sri Lanka.
