Mar 2001]
Sri
Lanka aims to provide fresh drinking water to its entire population by the
year 2010 and is expected to provide one million water connections by that
year, Urban Development, Construction and Public Utilities Minister
Mangala Samaraweera said at a function to mark International Water Day.
The
international theme for this year is ‘water and health’. Currently,
only thirty percent of Sri Lankans consume fresh drinking water.
Over
90% of the water resources in Sri Lanka are used for agricultural
purposes.
