Young inventors will benefit from a laboratory fitted with modern instruments. The laboratory, fully equipped for the development of electronics based inventions of school children, was opened at the Arthur C. Clarke Centre for Modern Technologies, Katubedda, Moratuwa, recently. Three participants for the inaugural workshop at the laboratory have been chosen from 160 applicants. Last year, three young inventors represented Sri Lanka at the 27th International Exhibition on Inventions held in Geneva. Ravindra Senaratne, Niranjan Weerakoon and Chamil Weerasiriwardene went to Geneva to compete with some of the world's most brilliant inventors and did Sri Lanka proud by winning three gold medals and a bronze. Proposals and plans have been laid to further develop mechanical and civil engineering inventions in Sri Lanka. This programme is to be funded by the World Intellectual Property Organisation [WIPO]. Participants will be on the results of Presidential and National Award Competitions conducted by the Sri Lanka Inventors’ Commission (SLIC), and inventions exhibitions held in schools at regional level.
