The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the de-facto convenor of the Joint Business Forum unveiled a vision for Sri Lanka in the year 2020 yesterday, amidst a huge gathering of Government, Opposition, business and academic leaders of the country. The vision paints a peaceful Sri Lanka with a President from a minority community, less than 10% of the population below the poverty line and boasting an unprecedented annual economic growth of over 8%. It reveals factors such as political reformation, legal reforms, public sector finance and administration, economic reforms, infrastructure development, sectoral development, educational reforms, free trade agreement and labor reforms, as the underlying forces which would take the country to a healthy and positive development. Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Chandra Jayaratne who presented Vision 2020 urged the private sector to get involved in building the nation leaving political differences behind. He said that macro-economic and social perspectives set out in Vision 2020, are believed to be realistic and achievable, provided all segments of Sri Lankan society work towards a common goal.
