Export earnings recorded a growth of 19.8 per cent in 2000

Commercial Bank of Ceylon one of the leading private banks in the island says that year 2000 export earnings had recorded a growth of 19.8 per cent in US$ terms, compared to 1999.

Comparatively, imports grew by 28.8 per cent also in US$ terms in 2000.

“The performance of exports is commendable and is reflected in all exports sectors. For example, agriculture, industrial, mineral and other industrial exports had registered an impressive 20.6 per cent growth for 2000 compared to 1999,” said the Commercial Bank Chairman.

Meanwhile, the Commercial Bank of Ceylon has crossed the milestone rupees one billion in pre-tax profits in a record breaking performance for 2000.
