Transport of passengers and cargo by sea between the northern Jaffna peninsula and the eastern port city of Trincomalee has been further expanded. The frequency of sailings between Trincomalee and Jaffna has been increased with the deployment of the ships, "City of Trinco" and "Induruwally". The Government is making arrangements to deploy more ships for the benefit of the citizens living in the northern peninsula. Moves are also underway to reduce freight charges. The Colombo-Jaffna Shippers Association has requested the government to arrange for more ships to ply between Jaffna and Trincomalee.
