Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga meets her French counterpart today at the Elysee Palace. The two leaders will discuss the proposed peace talks with the LTTE and bilateral trade issues. The Sorbonne educated Kumaratunga speaks fluent French. The Sri Lankan President will urge President Jacques Chirac and Primer Lionel Jospin to monitor LTTE or its front organisations raising funds for their militant activities in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan delegation is expected to meet the French business community to promote imports from the Island. The main export from Sri Lanka to France is garments. The main concern is to reach zero percent tax leverage on Sri Lankan apparel exports. More French investors are expected to visit Sri Lanka during this year under the recently established Paris-based French-Sri Lanka Business Council. President Kumaratunga was accompanied by a high level delegation on her three-day official visit.
