Interim appointment at Board of Investment with resignation of Chairman after corruption charges

Secretary to the Ministry of Industrial Development, Mr. W.C. Dheerasekara has been appointed to cover up the duties of the Director General of the BOI, after the former Chairman/Director General, Mr. Thilan Wijesinghe, resigned from his post over corruption allegations. The appointment has been made by Industrial Development Minister, Prof. G. L. Peiris.

Mr. Thilan Wijesinghe resigned on Sunday to clear his name, following corruption charges by the Bribery Commission.

Mr. Wijesinghe in a press release stated that in the interest of the institutional credibility of the BOI, he felt it was only correct that he stepped down from public office until such time as he is exonerated.

The BOI of Sri Lanka is an autonomous statutory body vested with wide ranging powers to facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Sri Lanka.
