US$ 3 million worth joint venture to upgrade E-Learning in Sri Lanka

Distance Learning is underway with the assistance from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank. US$ three million has been invested in this project.

IDA will provide interest free credit for the implementation of the project.

The Government of Sri Lanka will contribute US$ one million.

This project is the first of its kind in south Asia.

The project will strengthen the Government’s key policy reforms through dissemination of the latest technical information using advanced communications and Internet based technology.

The project is aimed at providing specialized training for the officials both in the public and private sectors. The World Bank and the Government of Sri Lanka signed the agreement of the loan in Colombo on Wednesday.
