Malini Bulathsinhala dies on concert tour in Los Angeles

Well-known Sri Lankan singer Malini Bulathsinghala, passed away yesterday while on a concert tour in Los Angeles.

She was found dead in a room at the residence of the Sri Lanka Consul Tissa Wijeratne.

A member of her family said that the probable cause of death was a heart attack. He added that her body would be flown to Colombo on Sunday.

Among her most popular songs were, 'Dampatin La Sanda Besayanawa', 'Thara Paara Diga' and 'Mala Pothe Akuru'.   

Her close associates in the music industry received the news with shock and sorrow. "I knew her from the time both of us were amateur artistes and students of music," said popular singer close associate, Edward Jayakody.

"She was a musician who did not compete or resent the entry of newcomers to the field; she always extended a helping hand to her fellow musicians," he added.
