India's leader in paint seeks to conquer Sri Lankan market

Asian Paints Limited, India's market leader for over four decades, seeks to position itself as the market leader in Sri Lanka.

"We will be launching our brands in Sri Lanka with an extensive brand building exercise, together with the introduction of the latest Technology from India," said Finance Manager Mr. M. Sivakumar.

"Initially our concentration is to be a strong player in the local market and then to explore export opportunities," he said.

The company invested Rs. 100 million in 1999, to acquire a 76% stake of Delmege Forsyth Paints Limited. They now have a 10% market share, which they hope to increase. Asian Paints (India) is an Indian based multi national company. 

Asian Paints (India) entered the world market with its products over 30 years ago. Today it is India’s largest exporter of paints, exporting to 22 markets in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and Africa.
