Colombo's premier leisure area to be redeveloped

The Ministry of Urban Development, Construction and Public Utilities has acquired the Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo for redevelopment under the accelerated Colombo Development Project. The park was under the administration of the Colombo Municipal Council before being acquired by the government.

The 54-acre park is the only one of its type in the city. The ministry will develop the park as a prime leisure area for city dwellers with facilities including a cafeteria.

The park named after a former queen of Sri Lanka is to handed back to the Colombo Municipal Council after the redevelopment.
