Her remains were flown to Colombo on April 1, and kept at her residence in Madinnagoda for the public to pay their respects. The body was brought to Kalabawana (Art Gallery) yesterday. It is customary for the remains of reputed Sri Lankan Artistes to be kept at colombo's premier Art Gallery for the public to pay their respects. A large and distinguished crowd gathered at the funeral to pay a final tribute to the inimitable Malini. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga conveyed her condolences yesterday said, "I was greatly grieved at the passing away of veteran singer Visharada Malini Bulathsinhala, whose demise has caused an irreparable loss to the sphere of performing arts in Sri Lanka. Her humanitarian and progressive qualities have been instrumental in the enhancement of her creativity. She has realised the true role of an artiste. She made use of her creative talents to portray those qualities. I share this moment of sorrow with the rest of her family."

A star falls from the sky… The star is silent… It is the sky that cries… A flower falls gently from the stem… The flower is silent… It is the stem that cries... (A verse from a popular song sung by Malini Bulathsinhala)
