CBI wants ‘KP’ in connection with Rajiv assassination case

The Indian Criminal Bureau of Investigations (CBI) has approached nearly 23 countries including Sweden requesting information about LTTE members who are allegedly linked with the assassination of the former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

In 1991 former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed in cold blood by an LTTE suicide bomber at an election rally in Chennai.

It is believed that LTTE's head of international network, Tharmalingam Shanmugam Kumaran alias Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP who is suspected to have links with the assassination of Gandhi is hiding in Sweden.

According to intelligence reports, ‘KP’ heads the segment of the LTTE known as KP department. ‘KP’ department operates a merchant shipping network known as the `sea pigeons'.
