A long awaited joint agreement was signed by Sri Lanka and Russia to combat international crime. The agreement provides for mutual cooperation to assist each other in suppressing serious international crimes. The Inspector General of Police Lucky Kodituwakku and Russian Federal Security Service Director, Colonel General Nikolay Patrushev signed the agreement at the Defence Ministry, Colombo, yesterday. The agreement was an outcome of series of reciprocal visits and interaction initiated by both countries since 1997, which marked a significant event in Colombo-Moscow bilateral relations. The two countries will interact in fighting terrorism and all other forms of transnational crime, including drug trafficking, money laundering and illegal immigration. This will also facilitate greater co-operation in the exchange of expertise, resources and experience.
