Emergency Regulations extended by one month

The bill to extend the state of Emergency by one month was passed in Parliament yesterday while the main opposition party voted against for the first time. The JVP, TULF, ACTC and voted against the bill.

While the CWC and EPDP voted with the Government, the Sihala Urumaya was absent at the time of voting.

However, the bill was passed by a majority of 22 votes with 111 voting for and 89 against.

The Vote on the Ministry of Defence was also passed by a majority of 102 with 110 voting for and eight against. The UNP and the JVP abstained from voting.
