Two IT Training Centres opened under Govt's 50 "IT-Hub" programme
[09 Apr 2001]

The second IT training centre of Government's visionary "IT Hub" was opened on Saturday at Galle, South of Sri Lanka, by Deputy Minister of Finance Professor G.L. Peiris. This programme is part of the Govt's vision to bridge the IT gap in the country.

"The Government has decided to take this programme of 50 IT centres countrywide so that there would be no discrimination in the opportunities between the metropolitan areas, the urban areas and the rural areas," Prof. Peiris said at the inauguration ceremony.

The IT centres will be sponsored by the Board of Investment (BOI), with the assistance of the Bureau for Infrastructure Investment (BII), which is a part of the BOI.

The first IT Centre was opened in the hill capital Kandy, of the Central Province in February. Eighteen such Primary IT Training Centres will be opened throughout the island, district-wise. In addition a network of secondary training centres too would be established under each Primary Training Centre.

All these training centres will be run by reputed private information technology centres in the country and the courses conducted at these centres would be both recognized locally as well as internationally.
