The commissioning of six additional oil storage tanks will give more storage facilities to meet greater demands in the future in case of emergencies, said Project Manager Sarath Herath of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC). The six storage facilities at Sapugaskanda, are designed to hold both diesel and fuel oil and each has a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters. "The new storage will solve the problem of holding a limited supply for a number of days," Herath said. The oil tanks were built by China's Huanqiu Chemical Engineering Corporation at a cost of 6.2 million dollars. The Company also repaired and restored the CPC refinery and oil storage installations in Orugodawatte in the Colombo City which was attacked by the LTTE on October 20, 1995 causing heavy damages to the oil storage areas.
