Sri Lankan government declares a five-day truce for New Year

Sri Lanka announced a five-day cease-fire yesterday, to begin at midnight tonight [12^th April]. The Defence Ministry has issued instructions to the Commanders of the Armed Services to cease offensive operations against the LTTE in the military Zones.

The government also is expected to release ten suspected LTTE cadres in detention to mark the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
