China grants Rs 450 (5 million US$)million to build exhibition hall and Centre for International Studies

The People's Republic of China is assisting Sri Lanka to build an Exhibition Hall and a Centre for International Studies in the premises of BMICH said Bandula Ekanayake, Director of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

China also gifted the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall to Sri Lanka more than 25 years ago.

According to the Director of the BMICH, Chinese Prime Minister, Zhu Rongji will lay the foundation stone for the building during his visit to Sri Lanka in mid May. 

Rs. 450 million will be spent on the construction which is scheduled to finish within two years. 

The exhibition hall will be named "The Sirimavo Bandaranaike International Exhibition Centre." It will be a place for young artists to display their paintings.
