Sri Lanka is OK, Says the Y2K Taskforce

[01 Jan 2000]

The Event Management Centre of the CINTEC has  issued a press release saying that the rollover to the Year 2000 immediately after midnight is free from any major unfortunate events as far as the Computer Technology is concerned. It has been reported that the highly vulnerable areas such Aviation, Sea Port, Airports, Telecommunications, Electricity, health and all banks which were tested have confirmed that all their systems are functioning without any problems.
Professor  V.K Samaranayake, Chairman Y2K Task Force says that the assessment carried out by them for Y2K readiness of all critical sectors had helped to evade any possible impact of the adverse effects of the Y2K and he thanked all who helped.
Professor  V.K Samaranayake ferther said that the Y2K unit at CINTEC which was managed by the National Y2K Coordinator, Assistant Coordinators and staff were committed to the tasks entrusted to them and the Event Management Centre monitored the work carried out at the operation rooms of mission critical organizations with communication links consisting of 12 land lines and 08 mobile lines, during the rollover of the Year 2000.
We are pleased to note that our efforts have ensured that Sri Lanka was not affected by the Y2K problem. Sri Lanka could now capitalize on this issue which should help Sri Lanka overall on its trade, industry and tourism activities.
