US Experts to assist twin bomb attacks investigations [3 Jan 2000] A team of experts will be sent from the US government to Colombo next week to assist in the investigations in to the two bomb attacks by the suicide bombers on the final presidential rallies of the PA and the UNP on December 18. Responding to an appeal for international assistance to carry out investigations by Sri Lanka, the Security Office of the US State Department in return has assembled this group. US was one of the first westren countries to declare LTTE as a terrorist organzation. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was injured in the Town hall bomb blast while former Army Chief of Staff was killed in the Ja-Ela bomb attack. Altogether 100 others were injured and 20 were killed in the two blasts. An intact cyanide capsule was also found when combing the Town Hall bomb blast site creating suspicions of an accomplice of the attacker.
