President Kumaratunga to call for an early dissolution of Parliament

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is expected to dissolve the Parliament with immediate effect and call for an early general election in March, in order to acquire the required majority to implement the new draft constitution through parliament to resolve the ethnic problem. The Election Commissioner is expected to set a date between March 15 and 30. Several changes are to be made to the present cabinet shortly and the next Budget is also to be presented in Parliament in April. UNP dissidents like Wijayapala Mendis and Susil Moonesinghe are also likely to be absorbed in to the cabinet giving them key roles to function with the govt. President Kumaratunga is to meet with her cabinet ministers within the week to discuss plans in holding the general election early.
