Norway as peace broker between Colombo and Tamil Tigers

Norwegian Foreign minister Knut Vollebaek is to arrive this month in Sri Lanka to assist the government in peace talks with Tamil Tigers. A ministry statement in the Daily Mirror has revealed this visit where Mr. Volleback is said to arrive on January 15-16. Norway, presenters of the annual Nobel Peace Prize has also provided assistance to the Guatemala's civil conflict. It has also played a similar role between Israelis and Palestine Liberation Organisation, which resulted in the historic Oslo peace accords. Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has stated this attempt to contact the tigers via the Commonwealth Secretary General and the Norwegian government.
